‘52 Language Movement Honorary Award (Amar Ekushey Sommanona Padak) presented to the living legends, Language Movement veterans, by DCEA 2020. ‘৫২-এর ভাষা আন্দোলনের জিবীত কিংবদন্তী, ভাষা সৈনিকদের ডিসি একুশে এলায়েন্স ২০২০ কর্তৃক ‘অমর একুশে সম্মাননা পদক’ প্রদান: DC Ekushey Alliance is an allaiance of Bangladeshi American Organizations in Washington metro area, who celebrates Amar Ekushey and International Mother Langauae Day every year since 2010 in Northern Virginia to pay respect and commemorate the sacrifices of the ‘52 Language Movement martyrs, with the support of Bangladeshi community and the Arlington County & Arlington Arts. This year, Prio Bangla, a very well known organization in DC metro area, was entrusted with the responsibility of hosting the big event. DCEA 2020 awarded four living legends, Language Movement veterans, in Dhaka, Bangladesh to honor their glorious participation in the great ‘52 Language Movement. On behalf of DCEA 2020, DCEA 2020’s Co-Coordinator and Prio Bangla’s Director Pryalal Karmakar presented these awards to the living legends, Language Movement veterans at, Dhaka Bangladesh, earlier February 2020. The awards recipients are Professor Hazra Nazrul, Sabir Ahmed, Kamal Lohani and Ahmed Rafiq ডিসি একুশে এলায়েন্স-২০২০ এর পক্ষ থেকে ঢাকায় অবস্থানরত চারজন জীবিত ভাষা সৈনিকদের হাতে পদক তুলে দেন এবারের ডিসি একুশে এলায়েন্সের একজন সমন্বয়ক এবং এবারের ব্যাবস্থাপনা সংগঠন ‘প্রিয় বাংলা’র পরিচালক প্রিয়লাল কর্মকার। জীবন্ত কিংবদন্তী স্বরূপ ‘৫২-এর ভাষা আন্দোলনের জীবিত চারজন ভাষা সৈনিক যাদের হাতে এই সম্মাননা পদক তুলে দেয়া হয়, তারা হলেন- ভাষা সৈনিক হাজেরা নজরুল, সাবির আহমেদ চৌধুরী, কামাল লোহানী এবং আহমেদ রফিক। মহান ভাষা শহীদদের প্রতি এবং ভাষা সৈনিকদের প্রতি আমাদের শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলী !!!
Unesco announced 21st February as the International Mother Language Day to pay respect and encourage every nation to save the languages of their country across the world following the history of ‘52 Language Movement in Bangladesh, which is a great achievement paying respect to our fallen heroes. paying respect to our fallen heroes.
Short introduction of four Living Legends, Language Movement veterans award recipients are as follows:
1. Ahmed Rafiq (born 12 September 1929) is a Bangladeshi language movement activist, writer and researcher on Rabindranath Tagore and his literature. He achieved Ekushey Padak in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh 2. Kamal Lohani (born 26 June 1934) is a Bangladeshi journalist. He was a language fighter and awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015 by the Government of Bangladesh. He served as the Director General of Shilpakala Academy from April 2009 until April 2011
3. Sabir Ahmed born on 15 July in 1924 at Hurisagan village under Belabo upazila in Narsingadi district. He is a philanthropist and a veteran hero of the Language Movement. Sabir Ahmed is the poet of awakening humanity, equity and universality.
4. Professor Hazera Nazrul (born 20 Nov 1941) was a Language Fighter and helped senior leaders as a very young age. She has served as a join secretary of Bangladesh Government. Her awards including a Gold Medal from Bangladesh National Literacy and Cultural Society, Kazi Nazrurul literacy award etc.
