Emma Violand-Sanchez Founder and current Chair Emeritus of The Dream Project. Emma was born in Bolivia; came to this country as a high school student in the mid-1960s; and has been a pioneer in the field of Education. She created the first bi-lingual GED program in Virginia; was the first Latina to chair a school board in the Commonwealth (Arlington County); The Emeritus of The Dream Project, which provides scholarship and mentorship support to undocumented students seeking to further their education beyond high school. Emma an advocate about the role of the first language in instruction. One of the most important principles in educating English Language learners is to reinforce bilingualism as a social, economic and cultural asset.
